Dr Azimi is a Surgical Oncologist and General Surgeon. He has extensive sub-specialised training at major tertiary institutions which allows him to treat a broad range of conditions. These include benign and cancerous conditions of the skin, breast and the head and neck.
He is dedicated medical researcher who aims to contribute to medical innovation and to deliver the most up to date treatments to his patients.
Melanoma and skin cancer
- My interest in the treatment of melanoma and skin cancers commenced in my early years of surgical training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
- I have since carried out subspecialist training in a Master of Surgery associated with the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA)
- In 2015 I carried out a fellowship based at the Poche institute (MIA) where I trained in the surgical and multidisciplinary management of skin cancers
- As a consultant specialist I am part of a multidisciplinary skin cancer team at Liverpool hospital
- My research focus is into novel ways of diagnosis of skin cancers and optimizing local resources for skin cancer patients in South West Sydney
Breast
- After completion of my General Surgical training, I have been involved with 4 years of intense surgical fellowship
- In these 4 years I completed subspecialty training in breast surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, The Poche centre, Mater hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Liverpool hospital and St George Hospital
- I have completed two years of training with Breast Surg ANZ which helped me develop specialist skills in breast oncology and oncoplastic breast surgery
- These skills allow me to perform minimally invasive breast surgery, breast preserving surgery, partial breast reconstruction, oncoplastic mammoplasty surgery and implant-based reconstruction
- I am part of a multidisciplinary breast oncology team at Liverpool hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
Endocrine
- I have carried out two years of intense endocrine training after completion of my surgical training at St George Hospital and Liverpool hospitals.
- The procedures include thyroidectomy, neck dissections, parathyroid surgery, minimally invasive parathyroid surgery
- One of my passions is to carry out low morbidity complex endocrine surgery
- As a consultant at Liverpool Hospital, I have been part of a busy endocrine multidisciplinary team
Head and Neck
- My training in head and neck surgery is through fellowships at Liverpool and St George hospitals
- My major interest is in the management of complex endocrine and skin cancers
- This includes surgery on salivary gland, parotid surgery, submandibular gland surgery and neck dissection
